"Eight Kinds of Smart: Building On Your Child's Assets for Success in School and Life" and the workshop "The Myth of the ADD Child" were presented by Dr. Thomas Armstrong, at the Learning In Our Own Way Conference, Aug. 12 - 14, 2005. They are now available on DVD for the first time.

Each DVD is edited to show all the slides and hear Dr. Armstrong's engaging talks with the audience, and each is packaged with Dr. Armstong's handouts. The DVDs are also segmented so you can go directly to any part of the presentation from the main menu.

"Weapons of Mass Instruction," John Taylor Gatto's stirring talk not only describes the problems of compulsory schooling, but illustrates how many celebrities, millionaires, and ordinary people found success and happiness once they put their failures at school behind them and discovered they could learn and grow without conventional schooling. This DVD also allows you to jump to specific sections of Gatto's speech directly from the main menu.

In our current education climate, it is practically heretical to suggest that children can learn anywhere else than in school. As you can see from the variety of recordings made at the event, The Learning In Our Own Way conference provides good harbor for everyone who challenges this assumption.

When people say that school is the best place for children and teenagers to learn, share these recordings with them to see and hear about other places, people, and experiences that families, businesses, schools, and communities can provide instead.

Sincerely,

Pat Farenga
